| Devil May Cry 4Developer: Capcom Publisher: Capcom Website: Official site Violence and videogames. The one thing that you can count on to always go hand-in-hand. That is what we like here at 360splurge. The more outlandish the better. And this intrepid previewer has never played a Devil May Cry game, but has always enviously looked on at the delicious mix of death, decapitation and destruction. And this will continue with the fourth adventure set in the DMC universe. For those in the know, you will already know that in this game you take control of a new character that goes by the name of Nero. The prevous leading man, Dante, is in there somewhere, but as with anything, it is the younger generation that is now in control. And how do you save the world whilst controlling the new leading man? Why, with swords and guns. As is the case in all DMC games, you have a gun so huge, it seems to be less of a gun and more of a handheld cannon. Traditionally, guns come in the .22 calibre or .33 calibre variety. If you don't know, the .22 describes the diameter of the barrel in inches. Or in other words, it is a 0.22 inch diameter. Now the gun that Nero carries seems to suggest a .90 calibre gun. Which is HUGE. But as we all know, in the fight against evil, nothing but the best will do. So, with your weapon which is an example of engineering excellence on your hip, a sword so big that even the good guys from Final Fantasy would be jealous, you set off to rid the world of evil. As stylishly as possible. Looking at Nero, you do get the idea that you are looking at an albino emo kid, but this child will not bore you with songs of depression. Oh no, he comes armed with all the graphical excellence that Capcom can muster and dispatches enemies with combos that can include about 40 hits. So, make no mistake, the action is fast and furious. There is loads of it. And this game has proven itself to be a hit with its fervent fanbase. Games like Conan and Ninja Gaiden have shown that justice is best delivered with the heft of a sharp sword. The more decapitations, the truer the justice. And DMC continues that line of thinking. As is becoming a pleasant norm in this generation, the graphics are stunning. The cutscenes are stunning and less obviously, the fact that this game is not a Sony exclusive anymore is also quite stunning. Colourful murdering will be with us quite soon. Gentlemen, time to start sharpening your weapons. |
